How would you, in 25 words or less, complete "The true and legitimate purposes of government are to..."?
I'd complete the sentence as:
... ensure greater, future, realizable access to choice for all while increasing the emergent diversity and disparity in, and general stability of, the human-participatinginteracting ecology.
I don't think this question gets asked enough, or answered enough. There's a complex framework of inherited assumptions, often from the 19th Century sometime, and that inherited framework isn't functioning in helpful ways more than it's functioning in harmful ways.
