Plausible Countershading

Another Malaysian Woods pavilion butterfly.
Wings out, dusky black colouring.
Half way up, and my but the undersides ...
Are rather more noticeable. Considering the (apparently preferred) flowers below, the red might be camouflage, too.
A straight-above, or nearly, shot. This appears to be a fairly old butterfly, or at least a mildly tattered one.
The other shot with a pleasing side view.
